How UCoin Works
What is UCoin?
UCoin is a non-monetary crypto-like reward system developed by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. It's designed to recognize and incentivize academic excellence and participation among students.
Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies, UCoins have no monetary value outside the university ecosystem. They function as merit tokens that can be redeemed for academic benefits and campus resources.
How do I earn UCoins?
UCoins are assigned by teachers based on merit and academic achievements. You can earn UCoins for:
- Outstanding performance on exams and assignments
- Active participation in class discussions
- Helping fellow students with coursework
- Creative solutions to academic problems
- Exceptional project work
What can I use them for?
UCoins can be redeemed for various academic benefits and campus resources:
- Extra Grade Points: 1 UCoin = 0.1 grade points added to your final course grade
- Study Guides: Access to exclusive study materials prepared by professors
- Tutoring Sessions: One-on-one help from teaching assistants
- Campus Store Items: UC branded merchandise, supplies, and café vouchers
The redemption process is managed through your student dashboard, where you can see all available options and their UCoin costs.
Rules
- UCoins are not real money. They have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- Teachers do not own UCoins. They assign them based on merit from the university's pool.
- 15 UCoins are issued for each student enrolled at the beginning of the semester. Wallet balances are reset at the beginning of each academic semester.
- UCoins expire at the end of each academic semester. All balances are reset to zero at the end of the term.
- UCoins are not transferable between students. You cannot give or receive UCoins from other students.
- Redemption decisions are final. Once you've redeemed UCoins, the transaction cannot be reversed.
